Certifiable
This post was supposed to be about how thankful I am for all the wonderful advice you all shared about Paige's Eczema. And how your prayers must have worked because she has improved miraculously in the last week or two! I am so grateful.
Then it was supposed to be about how I thought I had lost all the photographs for my book a week before the deadline and...I somehow wasn't worried about it. :O)
Then it was supposed to be a collection of photos from our glorious vacation we just took at the lovely Washington coast. But we got a phone call while we were on the beach (literally on the beach!) that became sort of the trump card.
See, last September my husband and I decided that things weren't crazy enough in our lives and we started looking into foster care. We took classes, got blood tests, background checks, CPR certifications, interviews and home inspections. Then we waited. And waited. And waited! I became so distracted with my book and several other things that I almost forgot that we were doing it. But while we were on vacation our Super Official Certification came in the mail. And the phone call on the beach was to let us know that someone, a special little person was coming to our home soon.
We're not sure what to expect or where it will go (although, eventually we'd love to find at least one little girl to adopt!) but we're excited to help children in whatever ways we can. It's something that is really important to both of us. Children really are the best thing on the planet, aren't they? I wish I could rescue them all and let them live with us! But that would be a lot of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches...
Anyway. THAT'S what's going on here! One of the things, anyway. :O) I look forward to keeping you updated on it as we go!
And the book? STILL working on it, haha. But by July 1st I will be done. Completely. (Whether I'm ready for it or not!) And that will be a huge sigh of relief. I'm ready to get back to regular life!
Have a spectacular Monday!!
Love,
Disney
P.S. Prayers...prayers would be good here. ;o)

My parents did foster care while I was growing up, it was hard at times but I learned so much about people and trials during those years. It was a great experience, your family will love it and be great at it. I have many fond memories of all the children that stayed with us and five of them even because my younger siblings! Enjoy the journey!
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you, Disney and family!

ReplyDeleteHugs, Disney. Such wonderful news. And so glad Paige is doing better with her rash. Congrats on your book - July 1st is very near.
ReplyDeleteSo happy for you. :)
ReplyDeleteSo exciting and wonderful! I have been following your blog for a while and LOVE it. I am a foster mother, and have had three adorable little ones for just over 7 months now. If you ever need any support or room to vent (which you will!) feel free to send me an email. It's tough, but so, so, worth it (even though at times you may question that!). Good luck!!!

This is great news, Disney! So excited for you to have a foster child. You will be amazing!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Disney,
ReplyDeleteI can only imagine how much that lucky child will benefit from being in your lives. Paige will probably be the most open-minded, well rounded child ever with this experience. I wish you all the best of luck on this journey you are about to take. Also what did you find that made Paige's ezxcma better?

ReplyDeleteCongrats!I can only imagine the anticipation in your household!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to serve. That's awesome that you both have hearts to do something like that. I'd want to save all of the children, too.
ReplyDeleteAw how lovely! Best wishes for you and your family :)
ReplyDeletethat's wonderful news!!! my husband and i are also in process for becoming foster parents! so i know how frustrating the journey can be. we went thru classes with 4 other sets of friends and they all have since opened their homes to foster children! we can't wait until its our turn. we had a house fire that has put us on hold for a while. but we can't wait to serve and love on children. i would love to hear what you can share about your fosters! ( i know its limited)
ReplyDeleteThis post made my heart glad(:
ReplyDeleteOh, Disney, that is such wonderful news! God just continues to bless you, and your kindness makes you oh-so deserving--at least as deserving as any of us are of the Lord's grace. I'm really happy for you. I bet Paige is crazy excited! Congrats, congrats, congrats! And best wishes between now and July! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats and God's continued blessings!
ReplyDeleteWhen I reach the right point in my life, I've though about being a foster parent. Best of luck on your journey. My prayers are with you!
ReplyDeleteHow cool. My family is also looking into foster adoption- we have been talking about it for YEARS (even before we had our biological kids) and we have all the paperwork but just haven't filled it out. We have three kids (ages 7,5,3). So we are a little nervous about bringing another little one in and how that would work in a 3 bedroom house, in california, on one income. But God keeps bringing it into our hearts. I've been praying lately and saying "God I need a big bright obvious sign that we are suppose to do this or not!" Don't you wish sometimes that God sent messages in giant neon letters? ... Thanks for sharing your news!
ReplyDeleteGood girl Disney, face this adventure head on!
ReplyDeleteWow, this is just amazing, Disney! I have been praying for you about this since you wrote a very personal blog post a few years back - just that God would use your love for children in a very special way! I think you will make an amazing foster mom! :) ~Nikki
ReplyDeleteThis made me smile!! We are also in the process of becoming Foster parents. I pray God blesses us with a child of our own blood someday, but we are also planning to adopt. Great to see so many other people here on a foster-care journey!! =)
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful! I have always thought that I would like to be a foster parent someday. I'm so happy for you. Lots of love to you all!
ReplyDeleteDisney! This is so fantastic! I am so excited for you and look forward to hearing about your new adventures with the little one!!
