DIY Petal Cluster Headband!
A couple of days ago I was making something out of some lovely, soft pink silk fabric and had a tiny bit left over, but not enough to sew anything out of. So I said to my brain: "what can I use this for?" and my brain sent back an image of a lovely little petal cluster headband. (Good call, brain.) So I started cutting out "petal" shapes and hoped for the best. I wasn't really sure of what I was doing, but it turned out pretty cute!
To make one you'll need a slim headband ($ store) two 1.5'' x 4'' strips of felt in a matching color and about 25 1''(ish) petals from your fabric of choice. I didn't use a template for the petals, I just cut guitar pick/raindrop type shapes. You can use any non fraying fabric like knit, fleece or nylon chiffon or you can also use any other fabric and if you have issues with fraying, just use a little fray check on the edges.
Glue them onto one of the felt strips with a glue gun. Place them pretty close together, so they push each other's sides up.
Start with a row of three, then a row of two, repeating until you've completely covered the strip.
Tuck the ends of the last row of petals under and glue down.
Glue your other felt strip to the headband, halfway down one side.
Then glue the strip with the petals to the plain strip.
Ta-da!!
Hope you enjoy! This would be pretty in ombre shades, too, wouldn't it? I should try that next.
Be sure to share a photo if you try one!
Have a lovely Wednesday!

ReplyDeleteI love this tutorial! :) So cute! I was wondering if you could do a DIY ruffled blouse tutorial. I can't find a pattern that I love, but I'm not certain enough in my sewing ability to totally make one up.
