Paige Crafts! "First Stitches" Wall Art

Welcome to another addition of Paige Crafts!!

I've been wanting to introduce Paige to hand stitching for a while now, and I thought that a blunt needle would probably be best to begin with. So we picked up some cross stitch fabric and some fun colored hoops (Walmart) and went to town!

To be honest, I didn't think she was going to be into it. It's more time-consuming and monotonous than the crafts she usually does and I thought she would get bored. Boy was I wrong! Not only did she love it, but she didn't want to stop when we were done. So we added another flower. Then another. Then a "P" and a heart. In fact when she and I went to the ladies' prayer night that evening she wanted to take her stitching with her so she could finish. And the next morning she was ready to do another one! My heart just beamed that she was enjoying it so much. Whoddathunk my active little five year old would want to sit for two hours with a needle and thread?

Anyway, here is Paige (with my words in black) to introduce her project for you all! 

(Fun fact about Paige: she's super specific when I type out her posts for her. This time she insisted on randomly placed numbering. I guess she sees me do it?) 

Take it away, Paige!

"1. These crafts are hard, but it's fun to do. But I was thinking, would you like to do my crafts?

2. I'm doing a very fun craft. It's stitching! I stitched "P" for me, Paige, 'cause that's my name. I would like to know if you would like to do my class (she's doing classes now?)because I have a very exciting announcement.

3. This is how you stitch: you have to print a flower but you don't have to do the P and heart. And then you cut the flower out and after that you get a blue marker(disappearing ink/wipe away sewing marker, available in most craft stores, or use a pencil) and then do little lines around the flower but not too close to each other. Go down and up with the needle and make sure not to mess up. But I messed up a lots of times. Then go get the scissors and then tie a knot and cut it and that's how you do it.

Have I mentioned that I love her?
Here are a few tips that she might have missed:

• Cross stitch fabric has little holes that you cam aim for when stitching, but for this project it's not important for your child to hit them every time.
• Trace any design you'd like! Just print any image and cut it out.
• Trace one design and stitch, then trace the next. That way your child doesn't get the lines confused.
• Teach them to thread the needle themselves by choosing a needle with a large eye and having them wet the end of the thread before threading. 

Then trim the edges and hang on the wall to enjoy and be proud of! Paige hung hers above her craft desk in the new studio. (Which is sort of coming along by the way...slowly!)
