Paige Crafts! "First Stitches" Wall Art
Welcome to another addition of Paige Crafts!!
I've been wanting to introduce Paige to hand stitching for a while now, and I thought that a blunt needle would probably be best to begin with. So we picked up some cross stitch fabric and some fun colored hoops (Walmart) and went to town!
To be honest, I didn't think she was going to be into it. It's more time-consuming and monotonous than the crafts she usually does and I thought she would get bored. Boy was I wrong! Not only did she love it, but she didn't want to stop when we were done. So we added another flower. Then another. Then a "P" and a heart. In fact when she and I went to the ladies' prayer night that evening she wanted to take her stitching with her so she could finish. And the next morning she was ready to do another one! My heart just beamed that she was enjoying it so much. Whoddathunk my active little five year old would want to sit for two hours with a needle and thread?
Anyway, here is Paige (with my words in black) to introduce her project for you all!
(Fun fact about Paige: she's super specific when I type out her posts for her. This time she insisted on randomly placed numbering. I guess she sees me do it?)
Take it away, Paige!
"1. These crafts are hard, but it's fun to do. But I was thinking, would you like to do my crafts?
2. I'm doing a very fun craft. It's stitching! I stitched "P" for me, Paige, 'cause that's my name. I would like to know if you would like to do my class (she's doing classes now?)because I have a very exciting announcement.
3. This is how you stitch: you have to print a flower but you don't have to do the P and heart. And then you cut the flower out and after that you get a blue marker(disappearing ink/wipe away sewing marker, available in most craft stores, or use a pencil) and then do little lines around the flower but not too close to each other. Go down and up with the needle and make sure not to mess up. But I messed up a lots of times. Then go get the scissors and then tie a knot and cut it and that's how you do it.
Thank you very much, love Paige."
Here are a few tips that she might have missed:
- Cross stitch fabric has little holes that you cam aim for when stitching, but for this project it's not important for your child to hit them every time.
- Trace any design you'd like! Just print any image and cut it out.
- Trace one design and stitch, then trace the next. That way your child doesn't get the lines confused.
- Teach them to thread the needle themselves by choosing a needle with a large eye and having them wet the end of the thread before threading.
Then trim the edges and hang on the wall to enjoy and be proud of! Paige hung hers above her craft desk in the new studio. (Which is sort of coming along by the way...slowly!)
We hope you have fun!!
As always, feel free to leave a comment for Paige. She loves to read them!
Have a great day!

ReplyDeleteWhat a fun craft! I remember loving to cross stitch when I was a little girl.
ReplyDeleteHey Paige! :D
ReplyDeleteI usually just "lurk" on your mom's totally amazing blog, but had to leave a comment this time! :D
Your stitching is beautiful! You did a wonderful job. When I was a little bit older than you, 8 years old, my mom showed me how to cross-stitch and crochet... and it was soooo much fun. :) I mostly just crochet these days, but maybe I'll get back into cross-stitching - your post has inspired me! :D
Keep up the great work, I love it when you blog, Paige!
(And to both you lovely ladies... the bangs are fabulous!) ;) I'm almost tempted to get some myself! But... my hair nearly reaches my knees, so it would take a really long time to grow the bangs back out again if I decided I didn't like them! :P But they sure look pretty on you two!
Have a gorgeous day!

Dear Paige,
ReplyDeleteI live in Bulgaria. Do you know where that is? It's near Greece and Turkey. And I think that this is a most lovely tutorial. You are going to become a great blogger one day. I think I might share this craft with some children who live in the community that I volunteer with. Just think, your craft may make the day of children in Bulgaria!
Much love from a sister in Christ,
Juliana
Miss Paige, what an excellent craft! Your flowers and heart and P are so colorful and even though you messed up sometimes, you were persistent in fixing it and finishing it! Way to go! My daughter is turning 6 tomorrow and she doesn't know it, but she is getting a stitching kit for her birthday! Maybe she'll post her creations on her blog when she is finished. Would you like to see if she does? I'll send you a link! Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteWOW Paige!!! I totally remember doing these at your age! My mom would buy little kits from tj maxx with bumble bees and hearts and I would get so excited when I got a new one! You are such a big girl and soon I bet you will be able to cross stitch with an eve smaller needle!
ReplyDeleteThose are SO CUTE! I want a little girl to do this with!
ReplyDeleteFor your first stitching you did very well Paige.I hope to see more of your great crafting in the future.Give your mom a hug and carry on.
ReplyDeletePaige, you did such a great job! I can't wait to show this to my daughter, Lily. She is five too! I think she might like to try this too! Thank you for your instructions.
ReplyDeletewow, paige looks more and more like you! how fun!
ReplyDeleteGreat Job Paige!!!! I think I might have to do this to decorate my craft room!!! I started hand stitching when I was 10 and I still love it to this day! :)
ReplyDeleteDear Paige,
ReplyDeleteYou are awesome! I have been wanting to try simple hand-stitching, and you have inspired me. =)
I really liked this Paige Crafts post. Great job on the instructions and the stitching. I've been staring a big bag of embroidery/stitch floss and just couldn't decide what to do with it and now I know what I must do...introduce my daughters to simple stitches! Yay, maybe they'll make something to keep & something to give. Thanks for the idea. P.S. I love the bangs...and the They Might Be Giants song, "Bangs," it's good-if you don't already know it.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great job Paige, I have always wanted to make a picture like this and now that you told me how to do it I am going to give it a try. Keep up the good work.
ReplyDeleteThese look amazing. Such a good job, Paige! A bit sad that I'm less talented than a 5 (or 6?) year old :(
ReplyDeleteWell isn't this the sweetest thing ever. Great job, Paige!
ReplyDeleteThis makes my heart happy. I am so impressed with you Paige. Beautiful job!
ReplyDeletePaige, I am so impressed with your sewing skills! You wrote a great tutorial and sewed beautifully! Fantastic job!
ReplyDeleteGreat job Paige! You are such a good crafter! Thanks for sharing your project! : )
ReplyDeleteI love the Paige crafts, it is so adorable :))
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry if I'm being out-of-topic, Disney. But I gotta say I've been admiring your posts this couple of months. Especially everything where Paige is on it. And now I'm sure she's not only lovable, sweet and pretty, but also super-talented little girl! Somehow I can see her future as a wonderful woman ;)
ReplyDeleteWell what a sweet thing to say! I certainly see a lot of special things in her, it's a little scary sometimes to think that I'm in charge of her upbringing! But I put her in God's hands. :o)
DeleteIn the top section of pictures (the one with her showing off her crafts)-- the picture on the left with the two red bars surrounding it is STUNNING! Seriously- she looks exactly like an American Girl Doll come to life!!!
ReplyDeleteImpressive directions Miss Paige :)
Love this SOO much. In fact, my daughter and I (she's 6) were reading a story about learning how to sew last night. She asked me if she could learn. I immediately thought of this post and we are buying the supplies today! One question for you, did she make her own knots? Or did you do them for her. Was thinking about this and wondering if she could do the knots by herself or not....
ReplyDeleteThanks for the inspiration!
(We are going to turn this design into a pillow, which she is dying to make!
love, love, love this!!!
