Sailboat Baby Shower!
The nautical themed baby shower last weekend was a great success! It was supposed to be "lighthouses and sailboats" but I ran out of time and resources so it became just..."sailboats". :O)
I'd been kind of thinking about the shower for weeks in advance and searching here and there on Pinterest(where I got the cute napkin idea!), but I really had no idea what I was doing until two days before the shower. Ack! I don't know why I do that to myself. I just can't work until I'm down to the wire! I'd make a horrible science project partner. Good thing I was homeschooled. :o)
We had the shower at the house of the mom-to-be's mother-in-law and she supplied some of the things so I think I was only out about $20. Nice! And most of that was the balloons. I feel like I could write a book:"Dollar Store Parties". :O)"On-hand Parties"? "Parties for Poor People"?? haha The cake was made by Girly Girl's Creations, which is a business that a girl at church started. She's such an entreprenuer-and she only just turned 14!
Anyway. So, about her mother-in-law, Kathy. (On the far left in the photo of me.) She's actually one of my best friends! I feel like I should tell you guys about her because she's such a big part of my life. She's one of the most wonderful people (persons?)on the planet. Seriously. I've never met anyone quite like her. The longer I know her, the higher up the pedestal she climbs. So if I ever mention "Kathy" you know who she is now. :O) She's also the mom of this little sweetie, one of Paige's best friends.
Well I hope you guys are doing great today! I'll be honest. I am just tired right now. Maybe it's the end of summer rush? I'm running around like a crazy person. So if I'm a little scarce now and then, don't think it's because I'm too lazy eating bon-bons to talk to you guys. :o)
Although. Chances are, I probably will be eating bon-bons.
Love you!

P.S. I didn't kill the beautiful map. It was already cut up when I acquired it. :O) Just so you know.
Love it! I just might use this for my son's second birthday party. :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE IT. I specialize in parties for poor people (and church events with no budget for decorations) so I love the ideas. And I love your outfit!
ReplyDeleteI vote "Parties for Poor People!"
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I especially love the life preserver napkin rings.
ReplyDeleteLove the red and white striped ribbon pennants :)
ReplyDeleteSo flippin' cute! What great inexpensive idea's! I just love everything!

I would buy Parties for Poor People in an instant. I am not poor, but I just don't think fancy party decor (for one day only) is a high priority when budgeting, so I definitely throw parties like a poor person! Haha. You would make a very lovely book with great ideas!
ReplyDeleteI would buy that book! get to work lady!
ReplyDeleteMy friend from church is planning and executing my girls' party next weekend and I couldn't be happier about it. All I have to do is hang stuff where she tells me and chop whatever food she tells me to chop. yay for friends at church who do amazing things so we don't have to! :)

o I am so like that, doing things at the last moment!! Why is it we do that, do we really need to feel the presure before we can get into action?! LOL Ha and also thought what a shame of that beautiful map, I have dozens of maps laying around in drawers, maybe I should start 'killing' them too, saw so many cute projects...
ReplyDeleteHave a nice day!
hehe, Parties for Poor People- sounds great! As a fellow poor person, I can't say I'd buy it though...I would definitely get it from the library!!
ReplyDeleteOh my!! Well done Disney. And yes you should add a tab on your sidebar for "Well Done Dollar Store Parties", " Beautiful On-hand Parties", "CREATIVE Parties for Poor People --- just make sure you remember to tell them to add a Lot of Love (it's free)!
ReplyDeleteI think you've found your niche - party planning and design, on a budget. I think you could make a good living at this. You could even do it electronically ie people could send you a theme and you can send them the ideas with printables and instructions as needed. Also a book is definitely needed. I don't like the phrase "poor people" but budget friendly is more catchy in my opinion. And I have an idea for you (as I just hosted a baby shower). Have you ever considered tooth pick toppers. My theme was jungle animals so I printed out small motifs of animals in an umbrella and taped them to the top of a toothpick. We used these to pick up fruit and cheese pieces from platters. Disney, love your blog, love your kindness and love your faith.

So, so cute! I love every little detail (and what you wore!) :-)
ReplyDeleteI feel like there's something in the water around you with how many awesome baby showers you've done!
ReplyDeleteI've been exhausted lately too. I totally understand. I took a 2.5 hour nap (in two spurts while baby was sleeping) earlier this week. Crazy. I love the shower, it turned out beautifully.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful party! I would buy that book =)
ReplyDeleteI would love to add you to my blog roll. You are so creative!
ReplyDeleteWRITE A BOOK ABOUT YOUR PARTIES!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!!!! I would buy it!!!!! Seriously. Make it an ebook or something. I always wish I could throw parties like you do! I need help :)
ReplyDeleteSo many good ideas! Great job! I love the garland, map cups and platters with sails. And I LOVE the dress you're wearing! :)
ReplyDeletethat is such an adorable party! I love how you do parties for such little dough and they look fantastic! I need to learn from you...I tend to go the opposite direction, which my husband LOVES. ;) I love the map covers for the cups and cute ribbon garland, especially!
ReplyDeleteEverything is beautiful! I love how you use the map and ribbon! And Megan is right, you should write a book with your parties' ideas! But I wouldn't call it parties for poor peolpe! Why not beautiful parties for frugal people? or beautiful parties for people that care for this planet's resources? ;)
ReplyDeleteI discover your blog 3 or 4 years ago and I love the way you think outside the box.
I think it's very clever and rational, if you can do it with less why do it with more? It's just waste!
Besides, I try to think (and explain to my daughter) every day: if we have a house, water, electricity, food in our tables, if we can go to school (especially if we are girls), if we have books and toys (and believe me my daughter is spoiled!) than we are milionaires! Because, unfortunatly, most people in this planet have nothing of it! I think we should respect that and use less resources!
So, thank YOU for all your great ideas to be rational!! Have a lovely weekend!
Love it, so creative, full of happiness and light. thanks for the inspiration!

ReplyDeleteFabulous job on the shower (as usual). I saw that you're being featured on All Free Sewing as the Designer of the week...congrats it's well deserved (^_^)
ReplyDeleteGreat ideas!
ReplyDeleteI love how you're able to throw such great parties on such a low budget. It looks amazing! Such a great inspiration! :)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great looking shower!!I can't decide between the pick-your-own plate decor or the ombre balloons!! And I do have a cousin who gets higher on the pedestal the more I know her!! But I don't want to tell her that-it's too much pressure :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I grow up I want to be like her.
I think this is one of the best parties you've shown! Everything looks really crisp and well-thought out! :) How did you do the balloons!?! And did you used two plates to do the sailboat plates?
ReplyDeleteOh, "Parties For Poor People" is hilarious!!
Please, please write "Parties for Poor People"! I smell a best seller!! :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a great party! You really did an amazing job. The sailboat toppers for the food table, the cutlery bundles, the plates and cups! Too much good stuff to pick a favorite part :)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoy reading your blog. You and your daughter are so cute and I love the graceful, humble, and beautiful energy you bring to your posts. I am from Oregon as well but living in Texas now for my husband's job so I love seeing your pictures from there! I hope you have an awesome weekend!
