April Showers
It's spring here. Yay! Other than the pretty flowers, the thing I look forward to most during this season is the RAIN. Growing up in Western Washington made me love rain, it's something I've missed like crazy since we moved away. But we haven't had much here this year! And what we do have is usually at night, when I can't enjoy it. Not that I'm complaining-don't get me wrong! I'm just grateful that we have changing seasons. Isn't that wonderful? Have you ever thought about what it would be like if we only ever had sun? Or snow? I love that earth has so much variation, weather-wise. We are so spoiled. :o) (Ok, enough of the "glad game", Pollyanna.)
I said all that to say that since we missed the rain so much, Paige and I made up a quick curtain of raindrops for her bedroom window. It was fun! And it perks us up every time we pass by.
These probably don't need how-to instructions, but here is how we made it:
- Grab Fishing line, scissors, tape and blue paper.
- Cut out a teardrop shape in three different sizes and trace them to make 3 of each size for each row of drops.
- Tape fishing line to the back with smallest drops on top and tape to the top of the window to hang. (If your string wants to curl, tape the bottom string to the windowsill.)
Isn't that cheery? Ok, maybe not to some of you. It would probably depress my mom. :o) But to us it's cheery and fun. :o) Unfortunately, it was difficult to photograph with the light behind, but oh well.
So do you love rain? Or hate it?
If you love it like I do, check out these adorable rain DIY projects:

These last two ideas don't have tutorials, but how easy would they be?
Not too crafty? Wear the rain!

(This one has a tutorial!)
Bring back the rain bonnet:
Or pull on a pair of cheerful rainboots!
(DIY Lace up rain boots!)
Next time it rains, try to appreciate it for how wonderful it is! And do lots of this:
Don't worry about your hair. You look great. :O)
Here's hopin' that we have a long spring before the hot days of summer. :O)
(Happy Sunday!)
Love,
Disney
P.S. Anyone have a tutorial on how to make it smell like rain? ;o)

Love, love, love the photo of Paige with the umbrella and rubber duckies!!! It could be on a Hallmark card!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the rain! I live in Western Washington. This week we had some heavy Spring rain but yesterday it was 65 and sunny here so we busted out the shorts and t-shirts. Gotta enjoy the sun while it shines!
ReplyDeleteThanks Disney!
ReplyDeletereally inspiring and pretty as always:)
Those are all beautiful! I live in the desert so you quenched my spirit!
ReplyDeleteThank you for that wonderful post. At the moment it is raining here in Switzerland, too. I love the constant change of sun an rain. The sun breaking through the rainclouds and the drops glistening in the sun. And the smell! Totally agree with you. Unfortunately it is rather cold here, so you can't stay outside. Even though I love the weather, I am looking forward to summer rain. Getting totally soaked and lying in the sun afterwards, not freezing at all but simply loving life.

ReplyDeleteI hate being in rain, but these projects did cheer me up! Rain drops are really pretty, and I love all the colors! :)
ReplyDeleteWonderful post...
ReplyDeleteIf you really like rain, then come once in Belgium when it's raining almost all the year ;-)
Thank you for the song, I didn't know it, really beautiful !!
The picture of the rubber duckies is adorable. I also used that rainy day tote on my blog http://bluelacedaisy.blogspot.com/ because I thought it was amazingly cute. The tutorial for it looks fun and easy.
ReplyDeleteI love the rain, too! I would love it even more if I had this umbrella:

Have you heard of Cath Kidston? I bet you'd love her stuff. I just die over it.
I have those green flowery wellies! I love them. In England it rains a lot (though at the moment we're getting hail and sunny spells which is wierd) so I get to wear them quite regularly :-)
ReplyDeleteI love the rain too!!!! I love a steady rainy afternoon!! I think I am going to make the rain drop mobile for my sister as "showers of blessings" baby mobile!!!!
ReplyDeleteWendy: Isn't that an adorable photo? It's actually not mine, though (and it's not Paige, but it looks like her a little!) I found it on Pinterest, it's linked to the source.
ReplyDeleteKasia: I love Cath Kidston! Her fabrics are so fun.
Would you believe years ago someone gave me a perfume that was meant to smell like rain? It was lovely but not as good as the real thing!

ReplyDeleteSo Cute...
This is such an adorable post with all the different rain creations. I never liked the rain that much growing up but I've changed to like how romantic and special rain can be :)
ReplyDeleteI never loved the rain growing up, but am learning to like it-especially because my boys love love love to stomp in puddles, and that somehow makes it feel fun instead of dreary.
ReplyDeleteThanks for for linking to my raincloud pillow. That helps me like the rain, too:)
xo
I love love rain. I grew up in a desert part of India so rains were so welcome and refreshing there. I used to get surprised when people would refer a cloudy or drizzly day as bad weather here because back home it would be considered awesome weather. California didn't have much rains this year either. Here's my little piece of rains for my home:

Beautiful post! Thanks for sharing :) x
ReplyDeleteLove! my little girls have a room decorated in a nature/narnia-esk style lol. I cut out big clouds from cardboard and painted them, and then hung big painted cardboard raindrops from them with fishing line. so fun. i love them on the windows though! they'd be fun in our kitchen :)
ReplyDeletethis post made me smile.
ReplyDeletethank you for that :)
I love dancing in the rain.
