J. Crew Should Hire Me...Just Sayin'.
Do you remember this "Petal Tee"refashion I did last year?
Well, I was on this cute blog, Welcome to the Good Life, and I saw her do almost the same shirt based on this J. Crew version, which is called the "Petal Necklace Tee"! Amazing!!
I am totally excited that my mind came up with something similar to what a J. Crew designer came up with! (And even more exciting that I came up with it first! Ha!) And what's funny, is that I remember saying in the tutorial that it reminded me of something you might see at J. Crew. So there you go! Now you DO see it at J. Crew! I'm expecting my check any day now... ;o)
OH man, you should sooo be hired!!!
ReplyDeleteWho's to say they didnt get it from you?
ReplyDeleteCompanies hire people to Google their name to see what kind of press they are getting.
Ive seen more than one instance this year of big companies copying indie artists, it is sad. All you have to do is Google and you will find the stories.
I agree with Hyla. J. Crew is notorious for stealing ideas from indie artists. You are so amazing Disney, I have no doubt they took this idea from you.
ReplyDeletethat was totally your idea! i remember it! :) Love it!!! such a cute top...
ReplyDeleteThey definitely should hire you! Or at least send a check your way =)
ReplyDeleteWay to Pave the way!

Love this shirt... Your version is so much better with the color and more crafted look:)
ReplyDeleteI had it happen this year also, one of my event designs from last fall showed up on the pages of Martha this spring. I decided it is flattery at its most amazing level.
Lol! Yeah they need to just go on and hire you.
ReplyDeleteI work in the apparel industry. I have to tell you, you are way more talented than most "designers" I know. J Crew would be lucky to have you!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! Thanks to your blog, when I go shopping I think, "Could I make this for cheaper?" and if I can, I do not buy that thing. hehehe
ReplyDeletegoing to try this tonight. your stuff is such an inspiration! keep it coming!
ReplyDeleteLove that tee... All of the above comments are so right! The fashion industry is not a pretty place, I wouldn't be surprised if J Crew had seen your post and then made it their own. That's what designers do these days...very sad! I might to copy you as well! Hope you don't mind... Lol
ReplyDeleteOh Disney, you're so cute! :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I say that shirt I thought of your petal shirt, so funny.
ReplyDeleteI was coming along to say what most seem to be saying here -- many large companies are getting bad press for blatantly stealing the ideas of indie designers. Sure wish they'd give you credit!
ReplyDeleteYou're too good for them!!! (not to mention sweet and funny) BUT, they should definitely pay you!
ReplyDeleteiT IS SO CUTE and your daughters a great model! I love the internet-because we can get ideas from others and or big names-like pottery barn, JCrew etc... Bolggers copy the big companies and maybe big companys are copying the bloggers? either way we all have access to great ideas!
ReplyDeleteI just had that happen to me!!! i just wrote a post on it :) I made a dress and then my sister found one similar on PacSun!!! its sooo cool!!!!! :)

ReplyDeleteThat's funny! You totally could work for them.

ReplyDeleteSadly true. I was reading about them hiring folks to walk around in "hip" neighborhoods in NY and Bronx, etc, and watching to see what trends are and to see what the artistic folks are doing to their clothes, what they are buying vintage, etc. So I'm sure they have google crawlers and mommycraft blog cralers as well. Why not. Cheaper and easier than walking around, and easy to see wahat thousands of folks are saying is awesome... making us a generic research team, sadly, without pay or profit. And the comfort is that each of us loving your blog is way too smart to pay for something you were awesome enough to show us how to make yourself. That said- SO ANNOYING to have any concept stolen from any artist, especially online. Don't let it make you frustrated... just let it make you more sure how BRILLIANT your work is.
ReplyDeleteLove this! And did they totally steal your idea??? That is crazy! I love your blog and all the neat ideas you come up with. I promise, your stuff won't be showing up in my Etsy Store anytime soon :)
