What Is She Thinking?!?!?
My sister, Joy, is the one who got me started making jewelry.
She's been doing it for years, and is very, very good. It's so fascinating to go see her in her element, with treasure troves of beads and wires and chains and fasteners all spread around her on the floor, and to watch her hands move so quickly as she whips out amazing creations faster than your eyes can follow. She's sold tons of things over the years to family and friends, and occasionally in local trinket shops, but I've been trying to convince her to start selling more on Etsy, and maybe even start a jewelry blog, and share some of her unending knowledge!
She messaged me the other day to tell me that she'd added a few things to Etsy, and I thought I would share the link with you all! I must warn you that if anything catches your eye, you should snatch it up before I convince her that she should double her prices!! Coming from someone who also sells jewelry, I happen to know that she can't possibly even be making her money back! And she hardly charges anything for shipping. It doesn't surprise me a bit though, because my sister has always been generous to a fault. :o)
A few of my favorites:
I also have a quick question that's been on my mind for a while....
Does it make you guys sad that so many of my projects are sewing projects? I always feel a little guilty for the non-sewers out there, because so many of my projects are not applicable to them. But maybe most of my readers are sewers anyway? Just something I've been wondering about. But maybe I'm stressing out over nothing. :o) I do tend to do that!
Happy Monday!!
Noooooooo, I love the sewing projects. don't stop posting them.
ReplyDeleteHi Disney, I just wanted to let you know I'm not a big sewer but I would hate to see you stop showing so much of your sewing projects. When I see what you create I can't help but be motivated to try and sew better. So please have no worries about this. I for one LOVE your stuff.
ReplyDeleteI discovered your blog last week, dug out my sewing machine for a 20 year refresher course, and am tackling projects as I type....so, nope, not too much sewing being blogged! Keep up the great work, and Thank you.
ReplyDeleteYou inspired me to start sewing, this is your blog and your followers will no doubt be appreciative of anything you post :)
ReplyDeleteI love your sewing projects! I, myself am able to sew, so of course I enjoy your sight!
ReplyDeleteMy friend who doesn't sew showed me to your sight because she loved your sewing projects. Thank you for having this sight!
I LOVE your sewing projects! I also just found your blog and bookmarked it and started following you on Twitter FOR the sewing projects. I got a sewing machine for Christmas, and I was so excited to find your blog of fun, stylish ideas. Don't get me wrong, the non-sewing projects are great, but I see them as fun bonus. Thanks for sharing all your projects with us!
ReplyDeleteI am not much of a sewer, but I can do the basics...I wish you would make more stuff for your nephew as I have two little boys and no girls! I do have a niece who I will be able to try some of your ideas on!
ReplyDeleteI think you have just the right amount of sewing and non-sewing projects. I was drawn to your site by the sewing but love seeing everything else you do. It reminds me that there is more out there besides sewing I can do! Keep up the awesome work please!
ReplyDeleteI love, love, love all of your sewing projects!! They are so creative, original, and inspiring. Keep them coming! =)
ReplyDeleteLove her stuff! And yes, it's way too cheap! :)
ReplyDeleteKEEP POSTING SEWING!!!!
I'm a novice (maaaybe intermediate by now) sewer and your stuff ALWAYS inspires me to keep working at it. I LOVE your sewing stuff!
More sewing! :) Things you can sew for your home would be great too.
ReplyDeleteYou do have a lot of sewing projects, but they're super easy! I LOVE your site, keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteI prefer sewing projects. :)
ReplyDeleteLove, Love, Love the sewing! I am a pritty good sewer now that I've been doing it for 10+ years but I'm just not very creative! I can follow directions to a T but can I look at a tshirt and come up with a dress? NO! My bff is NOT a sewer so I get to make her projects that she loves off of your blog too!
ReplyDeleteDont quit showing your sewing! I LOVE IT!
I'm on the fringe of being a sewer (I want to do it, but just can't get into it yet for whatever reason). Your posts always encourage me that sewing can be easy and delightful and not a monstrous process I don't want to get involved in.
ReplyDeleteLOVE the jewelry AND the sewing projects.. Don't stop sharing them!! It makes me wish I had daughters and not just sons!!
ReplyDeleteI don't think you have too many sewing projects... a lot of things you post are inspirations for other projects too! Like your post a while ago about making a clock out of old books... I made picture frames from old books after that! So keep up what you're doing :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a sewer! So there's no problem here!!:)
ReplyDeleteI love your sewing stuff! I recently found your blog and it inspires me to look for things around the home that I can enhance. I'm just getting back into sewing after a 10 year hiatus - thanks to my hubs and the machine he bought me for Christmas!
ReplyDeleteI just got a sewing machine so I'm in the still learning phase but I love your projects. I've even tried a few with good results.
ReplyDeletePersonally I LOVE the sewing projects - I think they are very inspiring!! Keep them coming :-)
ReplyDeleteI love to see a variety of projects, including sewing. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteIs it possible to have too many sewing projects? No, I don't think so..... I absolutely love your posts, *particularly* the sewing posts! They're so clever, resourceful and unique.
ReplyDeleteI love the sewing tutorials! You're the same as me, I don't use patterns and prefer more "craft based" sewing. However, I've enjoyed the other tutorials as well as I love all things crafty! I recently discovered your blog and love it!
ReplyDeletePlease keep up the sewing posts! And your sister's jewlery looks beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteI sew but it is not my first love. don't stop designing. I go to your site everyday, just to see what you have come up with next. You absolutely amaze me.
ReplyDeleteAll your posts are great, but the sewing posts are my favorites. They have often inspired me to try something new, even though I sew all the time. Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteYour sewing projects are why I started following your blog and why I spread the news to my friends who I know will try out your projects! You have an amazing talent and I love to see whatever idea you've come up with...keep em coming! ~ Theresa
ReplyDeleteIt's your sewing projects that drew me to your blog. I like your jewelry, but I love your sewing! Don't doubt yourself...you're much loved whatever you post! :-)
ReplyDeleteI am a big fan of your sewing projects. So quit stressing.
ReplyDeleteI don't think it needs to be said that you definitely need to keep adding sewing projects! I LOVE to sew! However, I LOVE your non-sewing projects just as much! So you go ahead and do whatever you like!
ReplyDeleteSEW ON!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your sewing projects and think you have a great variety. I love your beautiful projects and that they are simple enough for us beginners to try.
ReplyDeleteLove the sewing stuff! I just love seeing what you have come up with :) Have a great day, Disney!
ReplyDeleteI love the sewing projects. It's why I subscribed in the first place. However, I am a sewer so that's why I was attracted to your blog.
ReplyDeleteI think you need to post what you do and if it's sewing then post it. I think you cannot try to please everyone. Blogs that have a little bit of this and a little bit of that just seem scattered, IMHO.
Oh, and I totally agree, your sister needs to raise her prices! But have a her wait a day so that I can buy something first. ;)
I'm a completely novice sewer trying to improve my skills. Your sewing tutorials/projects keep me passionate about furthering my abilities. Keep it up. I'm totally a joyful reader!
ReplyDeleteI am new to sewing and LOVE all of your creations. It's such a huge inspiration and motivator! I try everything you make and sometimes have to try again ;O) I love that you find ways to use things that would otherwise be given away/thrown away (ex: onsies or tights the little ones have outgrown) You are fabulous and I really enjoy your sewing creations!!
ReplyDeleteI'm a little bit of a sewer, but I've got a lot to learn and your projects inspire me. Thanks to you I learned how to make the oh-so-wonderful ruffle, and have been adding it to everything since then!!
ReplyDeleteLove the sewing projects!!! Don't stop! (-:
ReplyDeleteDon't change a thing. It must be working or you wouldn't have so many followers. I love sewing; so am therefore drawn to you mostly due to the sewing projects. Although I am fascinated by the other projects as well. I think it's a good mix. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
ReplyDeleteGuess what, I am just learning to sew and a lot of the reason is because you inspire me. I just did the bubble skirt for my two year old and the tights and it turned out too cute. Black tshirt, black capelet, plaid bubble skirt and the little black knee highs with bows on the back. She looked like a perfect little school girl and I matched her by wearing about the same thing with a scarf from the same material as her scarf. I love your blog!

ReplyDeleteI don't really sew, but I also couldn't pull off a lot of the things you make (and look fab in) on here anyway. I stop over just to take in all the pretties! Keep up what YOU like!
ReplyDeleteI like the sewing tutorials, and I also really like the glue gun posts. I finally bought myself a little glue gun and I like seeing awesome things to do with it.
ReplyDeleteI loooove your sewing projects!! I am so inspired by your projects, please keep posting them!! :)
ReplyDeleteDisney . . . although I have just of late stumbled upon your blog . . . I'm shouting out "NO WAY . . . keep the AWESOME sewing coming" It's because of your blog that I've been extremely excited and inspired to get back in the sew of things!!
ReplyDeleteHi Disney. I haven't commented before on your site, but I always comment to myself how fantastic-ly creative you are!
ReplyDeleteI love to check to see if you have posted new things and really enjoy going through your older posts.
Keep up the great work!
Kirsty (Queensland, Australia)
I don't yet sew, but I've starred a lot of your sewing ideas for future experimentation! I am inspired by your creative ideas and your instructions seem very user-friendly. I love your resourcefulness! Keep the sewing posts coming, please! :)
ReplyDeleteyour sewing projects are awesome!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your sewing projects. I hope to try many of your ideas in the future (when I have a sewing machine :)). Also, what wonderful advertising for your sister! Her stuff is beautiful (as is yours). I purchased a couple of things before those price increases! I love the "Hearts and Chocolate" necklace you had in your Etsy shop. Unfortunately, I wasn't fast enough and someone else got it. If you make anything similar I would be very interested! Thanks for sharing all of your ideas. I love jewelry making and crafts. I am considering opening my own Etsy shop soon!
ReplyDeleteI found your site because it was about sewing. I love all your projects! Don't stop!
ReplyDeleteI sweat you have the greatest and unique ideas. I love the gloves and the scarf! Totally cute. Now if only I had mismatched socks! (I'm totally anal so all my socks and the kids- believe it or not- have all their pairs. Yup, I just throw them together in those lingerie bags and no losing them to the drier!)
ReplyDeletebut I gotta try this, I do, I do. I just might get old worn out socks. Yup! That's what I'll do!!! =)
I absolutely LOVE all of your sewing projects!! Please keep it up!
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely not! I love your sewing tutorials! Now if I could just stop reading your blog and go make something already!
ReplyDeleteHi DIsney! I just LOVE your sewing projects, please don't stop them! That's one of the many reasons I love your blog so much. I have two boys, one 2 1/2 & one is 8 months old, and I have gotten so many ideas from you, (it's amazing what you can adapt for boys!!) Please keep it up!!
ReplyDeleteSewing is goood, very good! Keep the fun up!

ReplyDeleteWell I think that board of bloggers has spoken-Keep the sewing! I just started taking it up before i stumbled onto your blog. I love all your projects and the sewing included. Thanks for all the ideas!
ReplyDeleteMany crafters do sew and your items are so much fun to make! My advice is to just keep doing what you do, you are fabulous!!
ReplyDeleteDO NOT stop your sewing post PLEASE !!! I love to sew and those are the projects I love to look at lol. More ruffles, more ruffles....more...
ReplyDeletenooo, I love your sewing projects! Please don't stop doing them!
ReplyDeleteI love your sewing projects! But then, I am a beginner sewer. Keep up the excellent work!
ReplyDeleteYou are too sweet. I am not a sewer, but some of your ideas are so simple that I am inspired to try it.
ReplyDeleteLove the sewing projects - especially the kid related ones!! I just turned tights into socks last night and today will be working on turning the top of the tights into a skirt! Love both of those ideas!
ReplyDeleteyep I'm a sewer and your projects are sew inspiring :)
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog and I was excited to see sewing projects. I would love to see more.
ReplyDeleteJanet
Her jewelery is wonderful. Love that black necklace with a magic red stone. I enjoy your sewing tip a lot. I would like to sew more than I do. I dont like to waste clothes or fabrics, it can always be used for something else. Have a great week /linnea-maria
ReplyDeleteI love them! And tell your sister that I'm so very sad that I missed out on snatching up "My Night Out" and "Desert Rain" both are oh so lovely!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your sewing projects!!! Don't feel bad for the non-sewers, you will inspire them to start sewing! :)
ReplyDeleteThat is why I visit you- I love your clever sewing projects!
ReplyDeleteKeep up the sewing! I love getting ideas and testing my skills! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love love your sewing projects! It's what brought me to your blog in the first place :)
ReplyDeleteI'm a sewer so don't stop!!! I try many many of your things!
ReplyDeleteI love the sewing projects. The adult clothing refashions are my favorite cause well I don't have any children. : )
ReplyDeleteshe makes some really beautiful pieces! i make jewelry as well so i love supporting other people who do, too. although i haven't had the guts to open an etsy shop yet... maybe someday! for now my family and friends all benefit because i give them as gifts. thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteAs a new sewer it is hard to find simple and stylish sewing projects. I look forward to each one you post and try as many as I can, even if it is just for practice
ReplyDeletePleeeeeease don't remove your sewing projects. I just started following your blog and i've already made 2 of your projects - the jersey skirt and the scarf. i've gotten soooo many compliments on the scarf. Please continue with the sewing posts!
ReplyDeleteIm not a big sower but I love your projects they inspire me to do more because they are simple yet elegant.. dont stop.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I would like to tell you that I agree with you about your sister! She is great at making jewelry, and is way under-charging! I would up my prices if I was her! There is no sense in taking the time to make all of that and not make a profit! :) Oh, and I LOVE your sewing projects!!
ReplyDeleteLovely stuff! I bought some earrings that I didn't really need - but they were so pretty! :) I found you because of your sewing tutorials and love your style. I'm a sewer, so please keep up the awesome work!
ReplyDeleteI am not too much of a sewer but your projects inspire me. What I want to know is why don't you sell any of your other projects on Etsy? Why do you only sale jewelry?
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't bother me. I'm not a sewer... yet, but I enjoy seeing your neat projects even if I can't make them, they inspire me to make other stuff. Ideas are the launching pad for more ideas!
ReplyDeleteHi, I've never sewn in my life, and I am FULLY entertained. Keep up what you do best, girl! LOVE IT!
ReplyDeletenope...the sewing projects are the reason I love your blog the best.
ReplyDeleteThe projects are doable, and love the how-tos. Please don't change the format!
Hey Disney, you will see from my blog that I'm not much of a sewer either,I do mainly crafts and paintings. But your sewing projects come straight out of your genius creativity and it's what you are great at...so keep at it!! You can probably compensate by featuring some great non-sewing daily features, though...
ReplyDeleteI don't really sew, but your blog is one of my all-time favorites! You inspire me.
ReplyDeletethis is my first time visiting, and wow you have some great stuff!!
ReplyDeletecan't wait to see more :)
I love your sister's jewelry!!! I'm totally dying for that looooooong one for my birthday this month!
ReplyDeleteP.S. Love the sewing projects, keep them up!
I created a spreadsheet to account for all of the etsy fees, paypal fees, costs, and shipping and a built in formula to calculate profit margin. I would be happy to modify this spreadsheet to help you or your sister determine prices on Etsy! lovieandboo.etsy.com
ReplyDeleteI am not a sewer and would love to see more non-sewing project ideas. That being said, I love seeing what you accomplish! YOu do beautiful work and that shouldn't stop. If you have time to do non sewing projects, great, and if you don't, still great! I love you blog and your creative ideas!
ReplyDelete(from a fellow Pastor's wife)
What cute jewelry!
ReplyDeleteMy answer to your question would be NO. I don't think you add too much sewing stuff. I was just storing up your fun ideas 'till I got my sewing machine for Christmas and now I'm ready to get at them!!! :D
Please keep the sewing projects because there still are a lot of us sewers out here. It could be a lost art if we don't pass it on. . . love all your ideas!
ReplyDeleteI love your blog!!! SO SO much! can't wait to make some headbands. Also i bought some earrings from your sister!! they are wonderful!! please tell her i just LOVE them. And it was awesome because i asked my hubby if i could buy something on Esty and he said it HAD to be under 5 dollars with shipping (he says that because he knows i won't be able to find anything) but i got new earrings thanks to your sister!! awesome i am so happy! i can't wait to pair them with a red cardigan for Valentines day.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the blog and for being so inspiring! love it!
