Tutorial-Fingerless gloves....from socks!

I started out trying to make some leg warmers for my daughter using Sachiko's tutorial, at Tea Rose Home, but I didn't pay attention about the slipstitch(oops!) and they turned out funny on top, so....I came up with these instead!
Start with some cute socks....
Cut them off right above the heel, fold them over and hem them with a zig-zag stitch.
They will stretch out all funny, which is good. In fact, depending on the size of your hands, you may want to stretch them out a little as you sew them!
Slip them over your hand and cut a 1" (or so) slit for your thumb.
Then use your zig-zag stitch, with the stitch setting as close together as it will go, to outline the thumb hole.
Try it on again, and stretch out your fingers. Hand stitch in between each finger.
Add a ribbon and a pearl, if you're feeling glamorous(I'm always feeling glamorous!)!
Put on your couture face, and wear them!
I was afraid I wouldn't have anything to wear them with, but I found this lovely brown dress and red jacket waiting in my closet! Hot dog!
Unfortunately there was no one to take a picture of me, so these aren't the greatest photos! Sorry!

I really want to try this with some dressy trouser socks. Pretty!

    It's super-duper easy, and there's no handsewing involved! :-) Miss M (3 next month) likes to put them on herself and they've extended the wearing life of some of her knit capris from summer that still fit, but wouldn't be warm enough without something to cover the rest of her leg.

    They sell little girl leg warmers for $12-30 a pair, but I've been finding socks at Target for $12 for 3 pairs....and that's regular price, sometimes I find them on sale!

    Sooooo perfect! Thank you for posting this! I have some GREAT knee socks that have holes in the toes and heels but I'm not ready to toss them out yet. This will give them new life!

    I like wearing this type of half/glove when I read in bed at night. My hands get cold, but I still need my fingers to turn the pages. Great Idea!

    Great idea. I have a teen who love gloves like this. She wears them in school because her hands get cold. I will have to make her some of these to add to her collection.

    So cute! I have a pretty bottom of the barrel sewing machine that doesn't do a zig zag stitch. Do you think that it would work with just a plain jane stitch along the edge?

    i love these! i'm a visual art student, and i've recently decided i want to start putting my ideas together for clothes, too. i'm sick of spending hundreds of dollars on clothes and want to start sewing my own and putting together my own stuff. this sock-to-glove idea of yours is awesome! i'm going to make it my first project. i'm excited... i am not sure how to sew though, so i'm looking up tutorials and some ideas. but, i really love this! kudos.

    I would not have thought of using socks. I've only heard of sweaters, and they are often too big in sleeves.
